Philip Ammerman moderates the panel on investments in innovations and new technologies at BestInvest Cyprus 2022

The Best Invest Cyprus conference is one of the leading investment conferences in Cyprus started by Natalia Kardash and the Vestnik Kipri Group. Held every year, the conference focusses on in-depth issues that affect Cyprus as an investment location.

This year, BestInvest took place on 17-18 October at the Four Seasons Hotel in Limassol. The conference was opened by Mr. Evgenios Evgeniou, Chairman of Invest in Cyprus, who provided an overview of the Cypriot and Global Economy in 2022-2023.

Philip Ammerman then presented on The New Normal: Managing in an Age of Continual Crisis and Instability. This presentation is based on research and work experience by Philip Ammerman as well as Navigator Consulting Group that indicate that:

  • We are entering a sustained period of disruption due to technological change, geopolitical conflict and the changing role of the state and society;

  • That present conceptual and econometric modelling may no longer be sufficient to measure real economic performance;

  • That the present model of the nation-state may no longer be sufficient to manage the scale and pace of the changes to come.

We are at a fundamental transition point in human history and activity. On the one hand, we have the unprecedented bureaucratisation of the economy through the role of the public sector, and its debt-driven development model. On the other hand, we have a series of technological and economic disruptions that will permanently change economic activity in the traditional governance model known as Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

Philip also moderated the panel discussion entitled “Investments in Innovations and New Technologies in Cyprus.

In the last few years Cyprus has been making significant strides in its quest to become a source of internationally relevant, disruptive, scalable innovation. The evidence shows an upwards trend in "fundable" innovation and the momentum within the ecosystem is pointing towards specific areas of potential interest. It will attract more private, institutional and corporate venture capital. This also changes the role and range of activities of investment funds in Cyprus.

The Panelists of this session included:

  • Andreas Panayi, Co-Founder, Kinisis Ventures;

  • Alexander Shkuratov, Founder, AvanTech Ventures, The Island Private School, Co-Founder Prodly;

  • Roman Gurskiy, Games & Entertainment Leader, GEM Capital.

BestInvest was attended by over 200 leading investors and entrepreneurs in Cyprus.
