I’ve been waiting for Apple’s launch of its long-awaited virtual reality headset for three years now. Back in November 2019, Mark Gurman was talking up Apple’s VR/AR plans in Bloomberg, with launches intended in 2021 and 2022. Today is day 1 of Apple's 2023 WW Development Conference, and I'm hoping the VR headset and wider strategy will finally be announced today. (Article continues on Philip Ammerman's Substack)

The FTX collapse and scandal continue to unfold in media. As a tech investor and advisor, I am more than a little furious with the investors who backed it so consistently over years with $ 1.8 billion in total capital raised. Many of these are regulated entities; others invest public money or pension fund assets. All of them are highly experienced and normally follow internal processes and controls. Yet in the case of FTX, it would appear that almost none of the basic protocols for tech due diligence and post-investment monitoring were followed.

Newspaper reports this week have been filled with reported threats to cancel the Nordstream 2 natural gas pipeline, which runs under the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany, in case Russia invades Ukraine. As with so many other public policy positions taken by western countries, this is a largely symbolic gesture which will probably have little impact on the underlying situation.
